Children and Warts

Children keep on getting warts off and on. Warts occur basically because of the action of a virus known as the Papilloma virus. Many different kinds of strains of this human Papilloma virus are responsible for those small benevolent tumors, which we call as warts. Children and teenagers are the main victims of the virus. The entry point of this virus is our skin. When the skin comes in direct contact with an infected person or area, the virus gets a chance to do what it is notorious for- cause warts. The problem worsens when children pick and pull at the warts. Children should just wash their warts and they will become soft and cease to be irritating. Some treatments for the warts are discussed below.

Use a wart removal treatment

Certain such treatments have colorful Band-Aids and using them is great excitement and fun for children. These Band-Aids contain salicylic acid, which is quite successful in treating these common warts. In addition to the above discussed treatment there are numerous other over the counter drugs that come in handy for the warts. Most of them use Salicylic acid or a variant of it.

What if it does not get all right ?

If you see that even after repeated use of such commonly available treatments, the warts are still present on the skin and the skin has become sore and red, it’s time to consult your doctor. The doctor would most likely burn these warts with liquid nitrogen and cover the area with a band-aid. By this process, the warts are immediately removed and you can take your child home the next moment.

Different kinds of warts

There is one type of warts that is called as plantar warts because in this case the wars appear on the soles of feet, particularly on the heels. This type is particularly very irritating for the children. Then there are the Flat warts. These are skin-colored warts and usually appear on the face and at the back of hands. Children become very conscious of warts because they look ugly, especially if they appear on the face and hands. Your child fears that he would become a butt of ridicule of other children and even refuses to go to school. You should treat these warts as soon as possible because in addition to physical discomfort; they have emotional problems attached to them also.
