Roseola Rash in Toddlers – Symptoms, Treatment

Roseola Rash in ToddlersRoseola Infantum rashes virus is an acute infection which can cause high fever in children, with skin rash in the babies between the ages of six to twenty four months. Infection can occur in toddlers at any time during the year. It is found very rare in the adults. The virus can spread infection which infects other person who is coming in contact. The doctor may be consulted in case of severity. Keep the child away from infected child. The complete recovery can be possible within few days without any complication.

Causes

Roseola is caused by a virus which is called herpes virus HHV-6 and rarely by another virus called herpes virus HHV-7. These viruses spread Roseola which is very contagious also. Oral secretions are the only mode through which this virus can be transmitted. Virus can be transmitted through sneezing, coughing and saliva to affect the children with weak immune system. Respiratory secretions are affected by this virus to be exposed by the symptoms within nine to ten days.

Roseola Infantum Rashes Symptoms

Roseola virus may affect the patient but it will take eight to ten days for the symptoms to be known to the person or the doctor. High temperature is the only symptom of measles roseola which can rise suddenly in the child. High fever may remain for at least four to five days which  may be affecting with runny nose, sneezing, cough, sore throat, mild diarrhea, loss of appetite, puffy eyelids, swollen lymph nodes on the back of the scalp, irritability and fatigue . The skin rashes will appear in red or pink spots with white ring around them after the fever get disappeared. These rashes can spread over the face arms which may disappear after the gap of two to three days.

Roseola Treatment

It is very difficult to know the symptoms in the initial stage but after these are known or exposed, some medications to reduce the fever may be given. Skin rashes or swollen lymph nodes can be examined to start the treatment. Children with roseola ailment can recover without any treatment.

Fluids in the form of water, electrolyte solution, lemon-lime soda or ginger ale may be given to prevent dehydration in the children. Rest is needed to the child to recover from this problem without any medication. Restlessness may be felt but the child can be advised to take rest.

Prevention

Children may be affected with febrile seizure but it will not disturb the nervous system. The infection should be prevented in place of treatment. The exposure to the virus can be avoided and there is no vaccine available to stop it from spreading. The child should be kept away from the affected person to prevent the virus to be spread to other child. Try to keep proper hygienic conditions around to prevent this infection. If the child does not get recovery with precautions, the doctor should be consulted in case of emergency.
